A respray is one of the few jobs where the visible result is decided almost entirely by work you never see. Preparation is the difference between a finish that still looks right in five years and one that starts lifting at the edges after a winter. Urban Autohaus resprays cars at our West Bromwich workshop in a professional enclosed spray booth, using two-pack paint systems, and we do not shorten the prep stage to hit a price.
We spray anything from a single panel to a whole car. Single panel and partial resprays are colour matched against your vehicle paint code and blended into the adjacent panels so there is no visible join — that blending step is what separates a proper job from an obvious one. Full resprays, including colour changes, involve stripping trim and glass rubbers so paint reaches the edges rather than stopping at a masking line. What a respray involves
Clear expectations, no surprises. If anything extra is needed, we explain it first.
- Paint code identified and colour matched, with a test card sprayed for metallics and pearls.
- Panel stripped, damage filled, and the surface flatted until it is genuinely true.
- Trim, handles, lights and glass rubbers removed or masked as the job requires.
- Primer applied and flatted back before any colour coat.
- Two-pack colour coat applied in the booth and blended into adjacent panels.
- Lacquer applied, cured, then polished and the vehicle reassembled.

Common questions
- How much does it cost to respray a car?
- A single panel is the most common respray we quote and sits at the lower end. A full vehicle respray is a much bigger job — the car is largely stripped down, every surface prepared, and considerably more material used — so it costs a multiple of that. Colour affects it too: solid colours are more straightforward than three-stage pearls. We give a written quote after seeing the car, and it covers the whole job rather than a headline figure that grows later.
- How long does a respray take?
- A single panel respray is typically one to three days depending on preparation and curing time. A full vehicle respray is usually five to ten days, because stripping, prepping and reassembling the car takes far longer than the spraying itself. We give a realistic timeframe with the quote so you can arrange transport around it.
- Can you match my exact paint colour?
- Yes. We work from your vehicle paint code and mix to match, and for metallics and pearls we spray a test card and check it against your car in daylight before committing to the panel. Paint does fade over years, so on an older car we may recommend blending into the adjacent panels rather than painting to a hard edge, which absorbs any small difference invisibly.
- Can I change my car to a different colour?
- Yes, a full colour change is possible. It is a bigger job than a same-colour respray because door shuts, the boot aperture, the engine bay edges and under the bonnet all need painting too — otherwise the original colour shows every time a door is opened. We will explain exactly what is included in the quote. You must also notify the DVLA of a colour change so your V5C stays correct.
- Why are cheap resprays so much cheaper?
- Almost always because of preparation and masking. A budget respray typically means less stripping down, minimal filling and flatting, masking rather than removing trim, and thinner paint. It looks acceptable for a while, then the edges lift, the finish orange-peels and it fades unevenly. We would rather quote what the job actually costs and explain why than compete on a number that produces a finish we would not put our name to.
