Most full-size vans on the road are plated at 3,500kg. Long wheelbase Transits, Sprinters, Ducatos, Boxers, Relays, Masters, Movanos and Crafters nearly all fall into this group, and they need a Class 7 MOT. Many garages can only test up to 3,000kg under Class 4, so van owners end up hunting for a test. We are a DVSA testing station, site S004609, authorised for Class 7 as well as Class 4.
That means we can test the whole of a mixed fleet in one place. Your Transit Connect, Berlingo or Caddy goes through Class 4. Your 3.5 tonne Sprinter, Luton or tipper goes through Class 7. Any faults found can be priced and repaired here, and if a van fails with us, the retest within 10 working days is free. There is no driving between a test centre and a repair shop.
Alongside MOTs, we service and repair vans of every common make. We carry out interim and full services to the manufacturer schedule, diagnostics on engine, AdBlue and DPF warnings, clutch and dual-mass flywheel replacement, brakes, suspension, steering and exhaust work. Known faults such as AdBlue pump failures, blocked particulate filters and gearbox bearing noise are jobs we see week in, week out.

- What is a Class 7 MOT?
- A Class 7 MOT is for goods vehicles with a design gross weight over 3,000kg and up to 3,500kg. In practice that covers most full-size vans, such as 3.5 tonne Transits, Sprinters, Ducatos, Boxers, Relays and Masters. We are authorised for Class 7 at our West Bromwich testing station, site S004609.
- How do I know if my van needs a Class 4 or Class 7 MOT?
- Check the design gross weight on the van's weight plate, usually on a door pillar or under the bonnet, or on your V5C. Up to 3,000kg is Class 4. Over 3,000kg and up to 3,500kg is Class 7. It is the plated weight that counts, not what you carry. We do both, so just give us your registration.
- Is a Class 7 MOT different from a car MOT?
- The test covers the same main areas, including brakes, lights, steering, suspension, tyres, emissions and the structure. The main difference is that the testing station must be authorised for Class 7, which many are not. We will explain any fails or advisories before you agree to any work.
- Do you offer a free retest for vans?
- Yes. If your van fails its MOT with us, we retest it free of charge within 10 working days. If we carry out the repairs, we can book the retest once the work is finished, so it all happens in one place.
- Can you service and MOT my van in the same visit?
- Yes. Booking both together means your van is only off the road once. If the MOT finds anything, we call you with a price before doing the work, and the free retest is booked once it is fixed. You are welcome to wait in our heated waiting room with a hot drink.
- Which van makes do you work on?
- We work on all the common makes, including Ford Transit, Mercedes Sprinter and Vito, VW Transporter and Crafter, Vauxhall Vivaro and Movano, Renault Trafic and Master, Peugeot, Citroën and Fiat Ducato. If you are unsure, call us on 07498 392333 and we will confirm before you book.
- Will servicing with you affect my van's warranty?
- No. UK block exemption rules allow you to have your van serviced by an independent garage without affecting the manufacturer's warranty, as long as the schedule is followed and parts and oils meet the right specification. We record the work so your service history stays complete.
- Do you look after business fleets?
- Yes. We look after single vans for sole traders and mixed fleets for local businesses. Because we test both Class 4 and Class 7, small vans and 3.5 tonne vans can all come to one place. Each van gets its own clear invoice.
