Why book with us
Ford Transit Servicing & Repairs West Bromwich with clear advice.
The Transit is the van we see more than any other on Cornwallis Road. Big 3.5 tonne panel vans, Transit Customs, tippers, dropsides and the little Connect all come through our doors. We service them, find faults, replace clutches and flywheels, and sort brakes, suspension and steering. We treat every van as a working tool that needs to get back on the road.
Most full-size Transits are plated at 3,500kg, which means they need a Class 7 MOT. Plenty of garages can only test up to 3,000kg under Class 4, so owners end up driving across the Black Country to find a test. We are a DVSA testing station, site S004609, authorised for both Class 4 and Class 7. That means your Custom, your Connect and your big 350 can all be tested here.
Transits have a few well-known weak spots. The 2.2 TDCi can suffer injector trouble and dual-mass flywheel wear, especially on vans that carry weight and do lots of stop-start work. Later EcoBlue engines have AdBlue systems that can throw warnings even with a full tank, and short local trips are hard on the diesel particulate filter. Knowing these patterns helps us find the real cause quickly rather than guessing with parts.
We start with a proper look. We read the fault codes, check the van over and test the likely parts. Then we ring you with a clear price and tell you what needs doing now and what can wait. Nothing is done without your say-so. If your van has racking or ply-lining fitted, mention it when you book so we can plan the job. You can wait in our heated waiting room with a hot drink.
We are on Cornwallis Road, West Bromwich, B70 9BY, a short run from Oldbury, Wednesbury and Tipton. We have been looking after local vehicles for more than seven years and hold a 4.9 star Google rating. We are open Monday to Saturday, 9:00 to 5:30. Common questions
- Can you MOT a 3.5 tonne Transit?
- Yes. We are authorised for Class 7 MOTs, which cover goods vehicles from 3,000kg to 3,500kg design gross weight. Most long wheelbase and high roof Transits fall into this class. Lighter vans such as the Connect and many Customs are tested under Class 4, which we also do. If you are not sure which your van needs, give us your registration and we will check.
- How do I know if my Transit needs a Class 4 or Class 7 MOT?
- Look at the weight plate, usually on the door pillar or under the bonnet, or check your V5C. The design gross weight is what counts, not how much you carry. Up to 3,000kg is Class 4. Above 3,000kg and up to 3,500kg is Class 7. We can test both, so you can book either way and we will sort the right test.
- How often should I service my Ford Transit?
- It depends on the engine and year, and some Transits use a variable service indicator. As a rule, a van that works hard every day should be serviced at least once a year or at the mileage Ford sets, whichever comes first. Give us your registration and we will check the right schedule for your van.
- My Transit judders when pulling away. What is it?
- A judder from a standstill, often with a rattle at idle that goes quiet when you press the clutch, usually points to a worn dual-mass flywheel or clutch. It is common on Transits that carry weight. We will road test it, check it properly and tell you whether one part or both need replacing before any work starts.
- Will an independent service affect my Transit warranty?
- No. Under UK block exemption rules you can have your van serviced by an independent garage without affecting the manufacturer's warranty, as long as the work follows the service schedule and uses parts and oils to the right specification. We record the work so your service history stays complete.
- My EcoBlue Transit says AdBlue fault but the tank is full. Why?
- Topping up does not fix every AdBlue warning. The pump, tank heater, NOx sensors or a blocked injector can all set the same message, and the van may count down to a no-start. We read the codes, test the system and tell you which part has failed before we order anything.
- Can I book an MOT and a service together?
- Yes. Booking both in one visit means your Transit is off the road once instead of twice. If the MOT finds anything, we will ring you with a price before doing the work. If it does fail with us, the retest within 10 working days is free.
- Do you work on Transit tippers, dropsides and Lutons?
- Yes. The chassis, engine, brakes and running gear are the same Transit underneath, so we service and repair them in the same way as panel vans. Most are plated at 3,500kg, so they usually need a Class 7 MOT, which we carry out here in West Bromwich.
